Ex-Pak cricketer Javed Miandad praises Dawood Ibrahim, says ‘he did a lot for Muslims’

Former Pakistan cricketer Javed Miandad has praised underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, who is also his relative, saying he has “done a lot for Muslims”.

In an interview with Pakistani journalist Hassan Nisar’s YouTube channel, Javed Miandad spoke about Dawood Ibrahim, whose daughter is married to his son.

“I know him for a long time… from Dubai. It’s an honour for me that his daughter married my son. She is very well-educated, and studied at a convent and university,” said Miandad.

“He (Dawood) has done a lot for Muslims. It will be remembered for long,” he added.

Miandad’s son Junaid is married to Dawood’s daughter Mahrukh. The marriage was solemnised under unprecedented security cover in Dubai in 2005.

Dawood Ibrahim is a wanted terrorist in India and is the mastermind of the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai that claimed around 260 lives. He continues to run a dreaded crime syndicate called D-company which is quite active in India. He also finds mention in Interpol’s list of wanted criminals for organised crime and counterfeiting.

In December last year, there were reports that Dawood Ibrahim was hospitalised in Pakistan’s Karachi with serious health complications. There was a buzz on social media that he had been poisoned and killed. But those reports were not confirmed.
